Oberflex at ETSU
Oberflex real wood veneer high pressure laminate is a feature of the newly redesigned and refurbished Etsu cafe at London’s Marylebone Station. Oberflex is exclusively supplied in the UK by Abet Ltd.
Designed and specified by West One Strategy Ltd, the new scheme uses Spiced Wood Pepper from the Oberflex Olympics range, on the fronts of the serving counters. This heavy duty location demanded a surface material which would not only look visually strong and appealing but which would also withstand being kicked and scuffed by customers. Oberflex was chosen because of its tough, high performance surface which is abrasion, impact, scratch and scuff resistant.
Ben Murphy, designer at West One Strategy comments, ‘We decided to specify the Oberflex Olympics range because the new woods are perfect for the design theme and bright new interior. Oberflex is a perfect material to use for this type of application because it combines the benefits of a real wood finish with the performance and durability of high pressure laminate’.
The ‘Olympics’ range comprises 12 new wood species ranging from dark Wenge to light sesame. It also includes some unusual finishes - such as liquorice and cumin, which have a dramatic tactile textured surface. The laminate is suitable for a wide range of internal uses and horizontal or vertical applications. It can be applied to most types of core material to provide a perfectly flat and thoroughly clean and hygienic surface.

High gloss laminate used for new Glasgow casino
The new Alea Glasgow Casino features Abet’s new high gloss HR LAQ high pressure laminate in all its washrooms.
Cubicle specialists Decra Ltd worked with casino architects Real Studios Limited to design the washrooms and specified Abet’s HR LAQ as it not only provided a collection of bold and bright colours but also provided very high resistance to scratching, wear and abrasion making it perfect for this kind of application where the combination of high performance and visual appeal are paramount.
HR LAQ is a Collection of Horizontal Grade Standard (HGS) laminate which provides architects and designers with a choice of 24 bold and bright colours. Having only recently been launched, it has already proved very popular with architects, designers and shopfitters worldwide for retail, washrooms, changing rooms and similar applications. In response to this, Abet will extend the range of finishes and colours for HR LAQ later this year. In addition, the company will add certain decorative designs and finishes from other Collections to the range, including the popular Legni woodgrain and I Finti ranges.

On the outside upside
Abet’s MEG collection of exterior grade laminate has been extended to embrace a new raft of new colours, styles and finishes. MEG is a self-supporting high pressure laminate (HPL) for cladding the exterior of buildings, balconies and other applications.
In addition to the 23 traditional plain colours, new swatches have been added to the MEG Wood finish together with three new simulated-concrete colours. A new innovation is MEG Metal which is available in five colours. Importantly, it is now possible to incorporate Abet’s digital printing technology. This means that almost any design, photograph or pattern can be reproduced in stunning detail to give architects and designers unparalleled freedom to create unusual and dramatic building facades.
MEG is a solid grade, load-bearing, high pressure laminate which carries a BBA Agrément Certificate. Its high physical and technical performance means that it can withstand all types of weather and temperature, as well as being resistant to strong UV light, acid rain, abrasion and damage. The chemical composition and the closed structure of the panels provides a graffiti-resistant surface which can be cleaned using normal cleaning agents.
