Guildhall

"Pinstripe" is another unique design using the innovative new method of digital printing.

The new design was proposed by architects Branson Coates for cladding the washrooms of the City Marketing Suite in the Guildhall, London.

We were provided with a textile sample of Andrew Martin Brummel pinstripe in charcoal and asked whether it could be accurately reproduced as high pressure laminate. Having established that this could be achieved using digital printing technology, the cloth was sent to out factory in Italy for printing and production of the laminate sheets.

Due to the time-sensitive nature of the project, a fast turnaround was achieved with the sheets being fabricated by Rudman's Joinery and delivered to Miller Construction for installation on-site.

Digital Printing technology means that virtually any image can be reproduced on laminate with a definition far superior than has been previously possible using conventional methods. Coupled with our very wide range of laminates, this gives the architect and specifier even greater versatility to create unique and unusual laminates.

Gardening With Laminate

Several thousand square metres of high pressure laminate, from various Abet Collections, are enhancing the refurbishment programme for all the garden centres owned by the Garden and Leisure Group.

The eclectic use of such diverse styles and colours has proved very effective. Different sections have been clad in contrasting laminates to highlight their separate functions, while the signage is similar throughout to give an overall sense of uniformity.

Abet laminates from the wood grained effect Legni collection, the COLOURS collection, the wonderfully tactile Fiber collection and the Walkprint collections have been used for freestanding displays, bookcases, built-in displays, signage, shelving, counter fronts and surfaces.

Designer Chris Appleby from MA Design explains, “We decided to use Abet laminates because the range is so rich and diverse. We needed a wide collection of different laminates for various areas from wood grain for the counters to plain colours for the signs. The Fiber range is particularly exciting and perfect for this application. The soft finish with a textured surface gives a lovely sheen and provides a cross between a rustic garden centre and modern finishes.”

Flooring Without Flaws

PARQWOOD blocked walnut has been used in the prototype of the new Microflat, heralded as London's answer to affordable housing.

The 32 sq ft Microflat sparked a great deal of media attention during the two weeks it was displayed in Oxford Street window of Selfridges in London and was the subject of a Carlton television documentary. The flat was designed to enable two volunteers to live in it for one week each and 'test' the design and the space. Sites are currently under consideration and the company hopes to start developing the first Microflat scheme in central London later this year.

Stuart Piercy of Piercy Conner architects, responsible for the Microflat explains, "We were looking for a floor that would complement the rest of the finishes. It had to be of high quality and durable. The PARQWOOD blocked walnut donated by Abet was perfect."
