Digital Print Provides the Cure
Large-scale images using Abet’s innovative digital printing technique are once again attracting attention. The latest application is at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where high pressure laminate is used to clad the public washroom walls. They provide an interesting example how creativity and Digital Print can together transform unattractive areas. Here, architects Gray Baynes & Shew wanted two magnificent landscapes accurately reproduced to give a stunning clean and fresh appearance for staff and visitors.
Hospital Estates Manager Steve Parsons says, “We are delighted with the overall finish and the effect of this laminate. It provides a unique finish for what would otherwise be a traditional tiled wall. There has been an excellent response from users because it gives the feeling of a high-class hotel rather than a public washroom.”
The benefits of Digital Print are many. This is a medium which offers architects and designers unparalleled freedom to realise unique and unusual concepts, by using Digital Print in conjunction with Abet’s many high pressure laminates. This method of reproducing images directly into laminate has revolutionised both the laminate industry and the world of interior design as more and more ideas are being brought to life.

A Starring Role for Laminate
Piccadilly Jim’ is a new film directed by John McKay. Filmed on the Isle of Man, it stars Sam Rockwell, Brenda Blethyn, Tom Wilkinson and newcomers Oberflex and Abet.
Zebrano and Canadian Maple real wood laminates from Oberflex, and high pressure laminate from Abet’s Serie Metalli Collection, have both been used to dramatic effect on the film sets. The laminates have been used to help give a rich, vibrant and luxurious feel to the film which replicates London in the 1930’s.
Emily Woods, director of Bellwood Media, comments, “We approached Abet for the laminate as we needed to create a very defined series of sets but needed them to be both lightweight so it could be easily moved and durable to resist damage when being transported. The decision to use laminate with a real wood finish provided us with the perfect solution.’
Oberflex is exclusively available in the UK from Abet. Available in a large number of wood finishes, it is suitable for a wide range of uses internally and most horizontal or vertical applications.
