Oberflex gives pause for thought

Obeflex real high pressure laminate, exclusively distributed in the UK by Abet Ltd, has made a great impact at the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library in Norwich. As part of an expansion programme in 2009 to create more public space, the Obersound 5.5 acoustic panelling has been used to clad the walls of the enlarged area. This complements the Obersound originally used in the library’s construction in 2001

Obersound 5.5 is a collection of compact grade self-supporting high pressure laminate created by consultancy 5.5 Designers. Obersound is supplied as completed ready-to-use panels which have been covered with a real wood veneer from PEFC managed sources. This gives them the aesthetic beauty of a real wood finish but with the performance and durability of high pressure laminate. As a result they feature a tough low-maintenance surface which is abrasion, impact and scratch resistant and also resistant to UV light and chemical products.

The range is available in five styles in each of five different Collections – Climate, Skin, Plant, Textiles and Sound Waves. Each style and collection has varying finishes and differing patterns of perforations giving them a range of acoustic properties dependant on the pattern, and a visually appealing style.

Samples and information about Obersound 5.5, other Oberflex and ABET LAMINATI ranges of laminates are available from Abet’s Sample Line on tel: 020 7473 6915 or from the website at www.abetuk.com.

Laminating The Building Envelope

ABET LAMINATI has forged a strategic partnership with ALIVA UK, one of the country’s leading providers of ventilated facades and exterior envelope solutions. The collaboration between the companies means that for the first time a complete design, supply and installation solution is now available for Abet’s popular MEG High Pressure Laminate exterior range.

Both companies share a strong environmental ethos and focus heavily on the environmental and manufacturing impact. They use prime materials that are sustainable and contribute to energy conservation and environmental protection. Abet was awarded the environmental EN 14001 in 2008 and Aliva Srl, Italy also intends to qualify for this coveted standard.

MEG, which carries a BBA Agrément Certificate, is a self-supporting high pressure laminate (HPL) for cladding the exterior of buildings, balconies and other applications. The range has been recently extended to include a raft of new colours, styles and finishes. Its high physical and technical performance means that it can withstand all types of weather and temperature, as well as being resistant to strong UV light, acid rain, abrasion and damage. The chemical composition and the closed structure of the panels also create a graffiti-resistant surface which can be easily cleaned using normal cleaning agents.

In addition to the traditional plain colours, wood finishes and simulated-concrete colours, a new innovation is MEG Metal – available in five colours. Importantly, MEG is also able to incorporate Abet’s digital printing technology. This means that almost any design, photograph or pattern can be reproduced in stunning detail to give architects and designers unparalleled freedom to create unusual and dramatic building facades.

John Woodham, General Manager of Abet Ltd, comments, “We are delighted to have linked up with Aliva UK, an expert in the building envelope field. With both companies having a similar philosophy with regard to quality products, high-end design and careful environmental consideration, there is a perfect synergy and we look forward to seeing some stunning schemes coming to life.”

Samples and technical literature about MEG, and other laminates in the PRINT HPL collection, are available from Abet's sample line on (tel 020 7473 6915) or visit www.abetuk.com

Abet Laminates on Another Planet

High pressure laminates from ABET LAMINATI are being used throughout the eye-catching new Planet Hollywood restaurant in the Haymarket, London.

This stunning venue which opened in June 2009 was designed by The Manser Practice and furnished from wall to wall by RHA furniture who specified ABET LAMINATI’s Legni woodgrains on many interior finishes.

Legni 312 Wenge in a SEI finish has been used extensively horizontally on table tops and vertically on Bulkhead Seating Areas, the Meet & Greet podium as well as individual waiter stations throughout this famous themed restaurant brand. The woodgrain effect provides a hard wearing, elegant finish which complements the backdrop of exposed brickwork and natural timber floors.

Wenge is one of 96 wood effects which comprise ABET LAMINATI’s comprehensive and popular Legni collection. Legni high pressure laminates are designed to give the warmth and appearance of real wood but with the advantages of strength and durability associated with high pressure laminate. In addition, the consistency in appearance and quality from sheet to sheet ensures that the laminate has a uniformed look throughout the restaurant as a whole.

RHA’s Monika Szewczyk comments, “We specified ABET LAMINATI’s Legni laminate for this exciting scheme for its consistent quality and hard-wearing finish. Due to the extreme hard usage that the surfaces will face, we had to be satisfied that the table tops and waiter stations could withstand intensive levels of wear and cleaning whilst providing a visually- appealing solution in keeping with our visionary concept for such a prestige restaurant.”

Samples and information about Legni and ABET LAMINATI’s other ranges of laminates are available from the Sample Line (tel: 020 7473 6915) or visit www.abetuk.com.
