New Cubicle Collection Launched
ABET LAMINATI has launched a completely new Cubicle range from its range of high pressure laminate. The laminate is either supplied directly as sheets or as completed units when working in conjunction with cubicle manufacturers such as Formwise Washrooms and Crawford Integrated Systems. The Collection is available in 34 plain colours, 6 woodgrains and complementary speckle effects in laminate specially selected for applications in areas of heavy usage or vandalism.
The Collection is primarily designed for use in heavy duty applications, such as schools, leisure centres or swimming pools, and in high traffic public areas such as airports, stations and places of entertainment. It is also suitable where hygiene is a primary concern - such as in hospitals, laboratories and food preparation areas. This is because high pressure laminate is easy to maintain and keep clean and overcomes the problems associated with traditional wood surfaces and exposed joints which are unhygienic because they can harbour germs and trap dirt.
The Collection, which fully conforms to the requirements of BSEN 438:2005, is available in a standard sheet size of 3660x1610mm, with larger sheet sizes available to order, and in thicknesses of 0.8mm post-forming grade and 12mm compact grade. The choice of thickness makes the Collection both versatile and cost effective. All offer a tough and durable finish which is resistant to heavy use, vandalism, impact damage and the ingress of water.
The 12mm compact grade means that the laminate can be used in conjunction with most fittings and fixing systems on the market. Supplied with a black core, it is available in a variety of finishes from a fine-grained texture, offering low glare and resistance to finger marks, to a full high gloss finish where visual appeal is important.

Laminates debut at the Institute of Directors
Several new Collections of laminate for Architects and Designers, including new Serigrafia 2008 designs created by renowned Italian designer Paola Navone, have been introduced by Abet. These were recently launched at the IOD together with the entire new collection from Abet Laminati.
The new Serigrafia laminates comprise 16 visually exciting and different textured silk-screened designs inspired by nature, ranging from dandelions and other flowers through to rose petals and leaves. An innovation is the textured surface which consists of close vertical lines simulating wallpaper but with a 3-dimensional effect.
These designs join the existing Serigrafia range which comprises 22 different styles based on 10 drawings. Created by a group of designers, under the aegis of Atelier Mendini, the purpose is to bring fresh, modern and innovative designs into the laminate world.
Paola Navone’s career has embraced the disciplines of architect, designer, art director, interior designer, critic and teacher. In 1973, she graduated in architecture from the Turin Politecnic and worked alongside some of the world’s most famous designers, including Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass Jr. and Andrea Branzi in the Alchimia and Memphis groups. In 1983, she was awarded the prestigious Osaka International Design Award.

First High Gloss Horizontal Grade Laminate
The first high pressure laminate (HPL) to have a high gloss surface has been launched by Abet on the UK market. HR LAQ is a Collection of high gloss surface laminates with very high resistance to scratching, wear and abrasion. Horizontal Grade Standard (HGS) laminate provides the designer with a choice of 24 bold and bright colours.
Traditionally, there have been problems with manufacturing laminate with a high gloss finish for horizontal applications. The solution is a new resistant finished called LUC-2. This finish provides the laminate with higher durability and level of shine compared with standard finishes. Importantly, it maintains high levels of brightness and a scratch-free surface during use.
Since the launch, the new Collection has proved very popular with architects, designers and shopfitters worldwide. In response to this, Italian laminate manufacturer Abet will extend the range of finishes and colours for HR LAQ. In addition, certain decorative designs and finishes from other Collections, including the popular Legni woodgrain and Finti ranges, will be added.
